Second Day at Casa Bernabe

Tuesday & my second day at Casa Bernabe.  This morning until around 2 this afternoon I accompanied Dennis & 4 others on deliveries of powdered milk, soups and other food supplies to other orphanages & community resources catering to children.  The first orphanage visited was a small--6 children with Shawn & Glendis, house parents who have a wonderful home and certainly love the children in their care.  They were very grateful for the supplies & support from ORI.  Also on the delivery route was another small home, a Guatemalan's woman's home who is bringing in local children for a meal and to teach them some schooling.  I also had a chance to ask Dennis a lot of questions about Guatemala and the services through ORI.  There are many good things happening here for the children as well as the people of Guatemala.  Election time is coming up in September and second round in November so there are many election signs up & many different campaigns going on.  Hopefully the next government will pay attention to the needs of the people and especially the children and make life a little bit more humane for them.  This afternoon after returning to Casa Bernabe, I went to work in the baby house which was very interesting, tending to about 12 children 3 months to 3 years old.  Very rarely was everyone happy with no one crying.  Even though there is a language issue, we seemed to communicate although sometimes I think I was called mom!  Now I haven't heard that for a long time from a young child!  13 year old James, who is with his family on this trip and had brought hockey sticks & balls, shared the sport of hockey with the young boys at Casa--they loved it!  Tomorrow there is no school at Casa so there will be lots to do.  Stayed tuned...

  1. I am a follower of your adventures. Very interesting reading. You might want to reduce the size of your picture on your camera, using just good or samll type of picture. Everything is quite here at the office.
