Lake Atitlan & Pana

Although it's Monday evening, I am writing about Sunday as I didn't have a chance to do a post last night. Sunday morning I had a chance to Skype Chris in Australia from the rooftop of our hotel in Pana. After a nice breakfast at the hotel, we embarked on a short boat ride on Lake Atitlan to visit the community of Santa Caterina... where we visited a church decorated for a wedding which was taking place later. Then we visited Margarita's home and was shown a typical Guatemalan home. Of course, there were handwoven items to purchase. Lots of children around the streets, some selling items as well and they were more than welcoming of having their pictures taken--for a Questales! I handed out some of my maple syrup candies which were a delight to the children. From there we returned to the hotel and after running around trying to use the ATM--one was closed, another was out of money & the third couldn't be trusted as it tried to keep my card--we returned to the hotel to catch the bus at 2 for our long ride to the mission home. By the time we arrived, it was after 6 p.m. & after a brief orientation from Dennis, the ORI Missionary, room alocation, anddinner, it was time for bed. We had to be ready for our first day at the orphanage by 8:30 a.m.
